INDIAN BUDGET , TAX BENEFITS FY2014-15 & STOCKS

Today, the first budget of the Narendra Modi Government has been presented in the parliament. A Good Day to Write HardJ. Sorry Bruce Willis.

What is in it for people in highest tax paying bracket? A tax saving of Rs 20600/- for someone in highest tax bracket with no house loan. In case you have a housing loan, you will get some additional benefit depending on quantum of loan and interest being paid per annum as part of your EMIs. Continue reading

100 BOOKS TO READ BEFORE YOU DIE

Akbar, one of  the greatest Mughal kings to have ruled India, never had a formal education. He was taught by teachers at home. Also, a lot of his education was by verbal transmission of knowledge. If a great king could learn and be wise on his own, couldn’t we be wiser by reading and gaining from vicarious experiences.  I have always wanted to compile a list of books which could complete one’s Continue reading

Aaj Phir Jeene Ki Tammanna Hai……

I am humming this song from the Hindi movie “The Guide”…as I write. For all stock market and financial investors, happy days seem to be here again. Almost everything is rising. Even a bankrupt company like Kingfisher. I sometimes wonder when I see a 15 paise rise in stock price of KFA, who is buying?   Continue reading

MODI CHOSEN PRIME MINISTER OF INDIA AND RISE OF A NEW HOPE

Today is a historic day in the fate of my India. I was not born when Nehru spoke about Freedom at Midnight and our tryst with destiny. But I can hear the echoes of that speech when I listened to Narendra Modi tonight.  I am blessed to hear him. Thanks to Television. Incidentally the Sensex breached 25000 and Nifty kissed 7500. NIFTY & SENSEX AT RECORD HIGH

Nifty has scaled 6700 levels. An year back we were at 5250 and 5450 levels. What does it mean for investors? The index has increased by 35% or so from those levels. But a lot of stocks have gained by more than 35%. This difference always remains. Same way when the Index will fall by 20%, individual stocks will tend to fall more than that. Continue reading

NIFTY : A BRIEF ANALYSIS

It has been a while, since I wrote last. In the meantime markets have shown a sharp rally. The Nifty and Sensex have made all time highs. They are just numbers. But for an intelligent investor what is important is, what should he do? I myself am facing that dilemma, so I thought from that angle. I wrote my first post in May 2012 and since then we have had just 13 days when one should have made an investment in stocks. Surprised !!!  Continue reading

STOCK RECOMMENDATION:HGS

On 02 Jul 2012, that would be about 20 months, I had recommended a stock as an alternate for a fixed deposit (FD) for retired people. You can read the analysis and recommendation of that stock. Look at my reasoning and the price today. HGS.   I guess, I do not have to write anything else. QED.

ASSET ALLOCATION REVISITED FOR A 35 YR OLD

How much should you allocate for wealth creation? I think it is a question which troubles all of us. Anshul Gaur, a regular reader has posed a very pertinent question. It is difficult to write when you watch two beautiful ladies answering funny questions on Koffee with Karan. I have just finished watching Priyanka and Deepika in a candid conversation with Karan Johar. So, I can concentrate on the blog. 🙂 Continue reading

DEVYANI KHOBRAGADE AND MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING

We Indians are emotional people. We see a young pretty government official being humiliated by the super power USA and we are up in arms. We devote reams of paper, TV time and sound bytes on reacting to an issue which is more sound and fury. That is how we as a people are. No wonder we never move ahead. At times I feel we rightfully deserve such a treatment. What is it about La Affaire Devyani which should rile us?
